Quantum is arguably in the ‘Innovation Trigger’ stage of the hype cycle, which means over-blown expectations of mainstream adoption, impenetrable jargon and few instances of companies achieving product-market fit.
In addition, there are still fundamental technology challenges that need to be solved around the physics of quantum computing, like stabilizing the qubits in a system.
Those companies that have successfully commercialized their technology are still not seeing revenue scale.
For example, IonQ, the first publicly traded firm that focuses solely on quantum computing, does not expect significant revenue or profit until 2024 or 2025.
