“Winning hand”– a cartoon that illustrates how the Fintech industry is capturing the most funding and the highest number of exits.

According to CB Insights, Fintech startups raised $132B in funding in 2021 (up 169% year on year) –  accounting for $1 out of every $5 of all venture dollars. Meanwhile, the industry saw the highest number of M&A deals (706), IPOs (75) and SPACs (16). 

Looking ahead, the year has already started with Checkout raising $1BN at a $40BN valuation, and with Fintechs seeing the highest proportion of early-stage deals of any industry, the sector is ripe for a further explosion in 2022 and beyond as startups mature.
